Know your Bible: genocide and sexual slavery

The God of the Old Testament is a violent character, ordering his followers to commit genocide and kidnap young women into sexual slavery: See Numbers 31: “31:18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.”

Human sacrifice in the Bible

In Second Samuel, chapter 21, seven men are sacrificed to avert God’s anger and ensure a good harvest. This was after three years of bad harvests. The men selected were two sons of Saul and five of his daughter’s sons, who were killed together and hung up so that God could see them.

Zombie outbreak, 33 AD

One of the first recorded zombie outbreaks was documented at the time of Jesus’ death.

Zombie mini-apocalypses must happen often enough in that part of the world that they’re not even worth recording. Come on! No one else even mentions it! I gotta hand it to whoever wrote the book of Matthew for having the foresight to include this enlightening event in the most infallible book ever written. If it hadn’t been for him, we’d only have one zombie stumbling around on Easter Sunday…..

I don’t know how they’re defending against the zombies. We do know that none of the undead made it to the city until Sunday

This is as well documented as the injunction to condemn gay sex, so you’d think it would get as least as much attention.

Here’s the quotation:

 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Lead codices a biblical discovery?

Read Lead codices silliness (hat tip to llewelly):

*” we have 20 codices (that’s a rather large number, but not suspicious in itself), made from cast lead (whiskey tango foxtrot … first alarms should be going off), then we get phrases like “Kabbalah-related” and “magical incantation style of writing” (second set of alarms go off).”

Authorities quoted say, “probably sophisticated fakes.”

What does the New Testament say about Justice? We have the Brick Testament to tell us.

Simple arithmetic washes out Flood story

The Talk Origins post of the month for February is by Lenny Flank: “Is present human diversity possible if only eight people survived Noah’s Flood?”

The first stumbling block is how much genetic variation got off the boat. Lenny points out that with eight people and two genes each for each gene location, the whole family, even if none of them shared a single gene, could carry only 16 alleles (variations) for each gene. Larry writes:

today we find human genetic loci (such as hemoglobin or the HLA complex) that have well over *400* different alleles (indeed some have over *700* different alleles). Hmmmm. Since there could have only been 16 possible on the Big Boat, and since there are over 400 now, and since 400 is more than 16, that means that somehow the GENETIC INFORMATION INCREASED from the time they got off the Big Boat until now.

And he goes on from there.

God pitilessly drowns His children

God drowns children because their parents displease Him

Mark Twain wrote:

Then at last, Noah sailed; and none too soon, for the Ark was only just sinking out of sight on the horizon when the [dinosaurs] arrived, and added their lamentations to those of the multitude of weeping fathers and mothers and frightened little children who were clinging to the wave-washed rocks in the pouring rain and lifting imploring prayers to an All-Just and All-Forgiving and All-Pitying Being who had never answered a prayer since those crags were builded, grain by grain, out of the sands, and would still not have answered one when the ages should have crumbled them to sand again. A disaster of biblical proportions

John McCain made a very gracious concession speech and asked his supporters to work with Barack Obama. He was biting back tears in a few places. I imagine he feels a bit like this.
