Harper, as usual, is playing fast & loose with the law. Since he broke his own law to call an election when the Conservatives were momentarily high in the polls, he’s been riding roughshod over the lives and rights of Canadians — from brown-skinned citizens unjustly treated overseas to stay-at-home voters. Now he’s closing parliament so that the committee to investigate how he lied, and demanded that his ministers lie, and even scripted their lies, has been dissolved and the furor about callously handing over Afghan citizens to be tortured can die down. When he’s not abrogating our rights altogether, he’s applying the law in the meanest-minded way possible. And he blandly says that “No one wants an election, anyway.” I want an election. Half the dictators in the world start with dismissing Parliament. Can you say “Oliver Cromwell,” kiddies? How soon until we get a Rump Parliament, where only the favoured party is the part that sits? And I know who’ll be the Chief Asshole.
