People who get their news from Fox News are treated to carefully edited sound bites that distort what news makers really said. Media Matters has created a short video that shows how recordings of Al Gore and President Obama are edited to change the substance of their answers to reporters’ questions.
Huffington post reports
…they manipulate video to make it look like people are just straight up saying the opposite thing they actually said. Well, it’s been bothering the media critics at Media Matters For America for some time, and they have, for a long time, been cataloging “examples of Fox News hosts and correspondents cropping comments by progressives and Democratic political figures in a manner that misrepresents them.”
See this report for more examples: “Time and again, Fox News doctors video to smear progressives.”
In doing so, they insult the people of America. Example:
- [Fox news reporter Goler] aired a clip from a March 26 online town hall event of Obama saying, “If you’re going to fix it, why not do a universal health-care system like the European countries?” Following the clip, Goler reported: “His critics worry universal health care would mean government-run health care.” In fact, Obama actually said, “Now, the question is, if you’re going to fix it, why not do a universal health-care system like the European countries?” [emphasis added] In doing so, Obama was paraphrasing the town hall question he had been asked—”Why can we not have a universal health-care system, like many European countries, where people are treated based on needs rather than financial resources?”—before explaining why he opposed such a system.
